We recently serviced an international producer of medical carts, used for safely storing and transporting medical equipment – particularly endoscopes – across hospitals and laboratories.

To support their range, they required the design, tooling and bulk manufacturing of plastic storage trays for integration into their medical carts.

Recognising Cox Wokingham Plastics’ strong track record in high-quality thermoforming and plastic manufacturing, the company approached us to ensure their exact design and performance expectations could be met.

The challenge

Serving clients across the globe, our client’s parts need to be produced consistently and efficiently, with the flexibility from their manufacturer to adapt to varying supply demands.

Furthermore, as their products are used in the medical sector, it is essential that all components and parts that make up the carts meet medical-grade quality, durability and material requirements.

This includes being able to withstand frequent cleaning and sterilisation cycles, ensuring that any surface materials are unaffected by high-temperatures and cleaning agents.

How we helped

As a leading UK thermoforming and plastic manufacturing specialist, we were ideally positioned to produce the bespoke medical parts.

After being approached by the client, we arranged an initial meeting to discuss their requirements. Understanding their needs, we suggested possible materials that would be suited for a plastic part used in medical environments.

Working alongside one of our suppliers, we selected the appropriate material due to its benefit of having an extremely high heat deflection temperature. This material would allow the components to be cleaned in a high temperature washing machine – a staple selling point that the company offers to their customers.

Once the material was approved, our in-house toolmaking team designed and manufactured a tool for efficient, reliable and bulk production of the plastic part.

 The result

We successfully created a tool that met the client’s design requirements, ensuring a perfect fit within their sleek and functional medical cart assemblies.

Furthermore, our expertise in material selection enabled the company to achieve durability, heat-resistance and hygiene performance in their new part.

With the tool now in place and materials sourced, we continue to provide them with bulk production runs of their parts, offering the flexibility and rapid response times that come with partnering with a UK-based manufacturer.
